Minister Göktaş promotes social services in Hatay amid aid controversy

Turkish Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, spoke at the Hatay Mustafa Kemal University academic year opening ceremony. During her speech, she highlighted the success of the ‘İyilik Var’ digital volunteering platform, noting that thousands of volunteers joined shortly after its launch.

Göktaş emphasized the importance of academic collaboration in the reconstruction of Hatay following the February 6 earthquakes. She stated that the Ministry values scientific knowledge and academic research to improve social services, specifically regarding the protection of children, the empowerment of women, and access to services for the elderly and disabled.

Separately, discussions have emerged regarding the Ahbap Association and its founder, Haluk Levent. Allegations have been raised concerning the potential misuse of earthquake relief funds. These claims have sparked public debate regarding the integrity of charitable organizations and the management of humanitarian aid in Turkey.
