Organization of Turkic States to establish TÜRKPOL law enforcement agency
At the 3rd Interior Ministers Meeting of the Organization of Turkic States in Astana, Kazakhstan, Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi proposed the creation of TÜRKPOL, a law enforcement cooperation agency modeled after Interpol and Europol. The proposal received positive responses from ministers representing Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
Following the establishment of TÜRKPOL, the member states plan to form a Crime Fighting Council. The founding agreement for this council is expected to be signed at the upcoming Leaders' Summit in Ankara, hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The council will focus on combating terrorism, narcotics, irregular migration, organized crime, and illegal betting.
Additionally, the ministers discussed facilitating travel among member states by expanding identity-based travel options and establishing common passport control points at airports. On the bilateral level, Turkey and Kazakhstan signed a readmission agreement to strengthen cooperation regarding migration and the return of individuals without legal status.
