Minister Ivan Shishkov meets with Sofia district mayors
Bulgarian Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Ivan Shishkov, held an emergency working meeting with Sofia's district mayors and members of parliament to discuss urban policies, priorities, and investment programs. The meeting focused on addressing specific infrastructure and improvement projects aimed at enhancing living conditions within the capital.
Discussions centered on the Investment Program for Municipal Projects, a key tool for funding local infrastructure from the state budget. Key issues raised by various districts include water and sewage systems, road infrastructure, and urban environment improvements. In outlying areas, concerns primarily involve missing sewage systems and aging water pipes, while more densely populated districts are focusing on streets, sidewalks, and green spaces.
Shishkov emphasized a commitment to returning investment reality to Bulgarian municipalities, criticizing previous administration practices for alleged lack of principle in fund allocation. He announced a new campaign titled “The Regions Speak,” which will involve active field visits to municipalities to assess water and infrastructure problems firsthand.
