Minister Joseph Nelson settles GH¢39,110 medical debt for accident victim
Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson has personally settled a GH¢39,110 medical bill for Emmanuel Etroo, a rubber tapper who survived a severe road accident in Takoradi.
Etroo was injured on February 15, 2026, when a Sprinter bus collided with his motorbike on the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta Road. Following the crash, Etroo underwent four surgeries at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital to treat a severe fracture to his right leg. The mounting medical costs became an insurmountable burden for his family after the bus driver failed to fulfill promises of financial responsibility.
The situation gained attention after a nursing officer at the hospital filmed a video appeal that went viral. Moved by the footage, Minister Nelson visited Etroo at the hospital on August 25, 2026, to pay the outstanding debt. Nelson also pledged to cover the costs of a forthcoming fifth surgery and provided an additional GH¢5,000 to assist Etroo with expenses following his discharge.
