Minister Karremans prioritizes Dutch water safety and rejects VVD leadership

Minister Vincent Karremans has released a vision for prioritizing Dutch infrastructure, emphasizing water safety and dike security. The plan includes financial reallocations toward the Delta Fund, supporting the renovation of the IJmuiden complex, high-water protection programs, and coastline maintenance. While the focus on water safety is welcomed by the Association of Water Builders (Vereniging van Waterbouwers), the prioritization will necessitate difficult decisions regarding sluices, large water programs, and climate adaptation.

Separately, Karremans addressed political speculation regarding the leadership of the VVD. He described the ambition to lead the party as ‘unhealthy’ and stated that there is currently no vacancy for the position. This comes amid polling data showing a decline in trust for VVD leader Dilan Yeşilgöz, who received a 3.7 rating in a recent Ipsos I&O poll.
