Minister Kurum announces urban transformation progress in İzmir
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum stated that efforts to make İzmir resilient to all disasters are ongoing. Following the 6.6 magnitude earthquake near Seferihisar on October 30, 2020, which caused 117 deaths, reconstruction efforts were coordinated by the Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKİ).
In the Bayraklı district, which was heavily impacted, soil studies led to the designation of stable areas as reserve construction zones. Through TOKİ and Emlak Konut GYO, a total of 5,592 independent housing units have been completed in the Bayraklı, Osmangazi, and Mansuroğlu neighborhoods, with an additional 995 units currently under construction.
Minister Kurum noted that the completion of these safe housing projects aims to provide secure homes for citizens and accelerate the urban transformation process in the region.
