Minister Marco Vinelli urges Senate to expedite legislative powers

Marco Vinelli, Peru's Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, has urged the Senate to expedite the debate regarding additional legislative powers requested by the Executive branch. Vinelli stated that the 20 powers previously approved by the Chamber of Deputies are insufficient to address urgent national needs.

The minister warned that delays in granting these expanded authorities could hinder the government's ability to respond to emergencies caused by the El Niño phenomenon and rising citizen insecurity. He specifically noted that the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) requires greater autonomy to assist those affected by disasters.

In a separate effort to mitigate flood risks, Vinelli reported that approximately S/ 320 million has been allocated for prevention works on the Moche River in La Libertad. These projects include cleaning a 12-kilometer stretch, installing dynamic barriers, and constructing canals and a tunnel to divert water to the sea.
