The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution seeking a complete exemption from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for teachers appointed before August 23, 2010. School Education Minister A Rajmohan moved the resolution, stating that approximately 3.28 lakh teachers could be affected by mandatory TET requirements following a Supreme Court order. The resolution urges the Central Government to amend the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act to provide statutory protection for these long-serving educators, ensuring their promotions and service benefits remain unaffected.

In a separate development, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced a Special TET 2026 for in-service teachers appointed before 2011. This initiative follows Supreme Court directions regarding mandatory qualifications. Registration for the special exam is open until September 24, 2026, with examinations scheduled to take place from October 11 to October 21.
