Minister Michailidou discusses social welfare cooperation in New York
During her visit to New York for the 81st UN General Assembly, Greek Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou met with Archbishop Elpidophoros of America to discuss strengthening cooperation between the Church and State in the field of social welfare.
The discussions focused on developing new structures for people with disabilities by combining the Church's social network with state resources and policies. Key areas of interest included elderly care, autism support, and the social integration of families and caregivers. Both parties emphasized the enduring bond between the Greek diaspora and the homeland, noting the potential for exchanging best practices in social policy.
Additionally, Minister Michailidou presented Greek social protection initiatives to the UN, highlighting policies such as the ‘Spiti mou II’ housing program, childcare vouchers, and support for working mothers. She stressed that social policy is judged by its practical application in helping citizens access affordable housing, childcare, and essential support services.
