Minister opposes MTK plan to move sports school into horticultural technical school

Szabolcs Bóna, the Minister responsible for Agriculture and Food Economy, has expressed concerns regarding a plan by MTK to relocate its proposed Brüll Alfréd Sportiskola into the building of the 114-year-old Varga Márton Kertészeti és Földmérési Technikum in Budapest.

According to the minister, the horticultural technical school is already operating at over 102 percent capacity, with its gym in use for 13 hours daily. Bóna stated that “two schools simply cannot fit in the same building” and warned that the move could jeopardize the technical school's independence or force a relocation costing several billion forints.

The Varga Márton Technikum provides training for gardeners, landscape architects, and surveyors, and manages a significant botanical garden and a 92-year-old Japanese garden. The minister pledged that his ministry would take necessary steps to ensure the continued operation and stability of the institution.
