Minister Ríos disrupts Supreme Court session order

Minister María Estela Ríos disrupted the order of business during a session of the Supreme Court of Justice by presenting a project out of sequence. This error resulted in the postponement of a vote on direct amparo in review 1078/2026.

During the session, Minister Irving Espinosa had been approved to recuse himself from case 1078/2026 due to prior knowledge of the matter from his time at the Mexico City Administrative Justice Tribunal. However, when President Hugo Aguilar called on Minister Ríos to present the project, she instead read the details for amparo in review 46/2026, a separate litigation regarding economic competition.

Despite the error, President Aguilar allowed the presentation to conclude and subsequently ordered the immediate vote on case 46/2026. This sequence prevented the scheduled vote on case 1078/2026, which involves a challenge by a civil association against a 2021 reform to the Mexico City Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection Law. A new date for the vote on 1078/2026 has not yet been determined.
