Adolfo Urso advocates for EU home appliance industry protections in Brussels
Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, participated in the EU Competitiveness Council in Brussels to advocate for strategic industrial reforms. A primary focus was a proposal supported by Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, and Slovakia to have the European Commission recognize the home appliance sector as a strategic industry.
The proposal calls for a dedicated European Action Plan to bolster competitiveness and protect the sector from unfair Asian competition. Urso highlighted the industrial and employment emergency facing the sector, specifically mentioning the need to safeguard companies like Electrolux.
Additional discussions included the Chips Act 2.0 and the Industrial Accelerator Act. Urso emphasized the importance of technological neutrality and strengthening European autonomy in essential technologies, such as power electronics and semiconductors. He also addressed the need to revise the definition of 'companies in difficulty' and advocated for increased investment in critical raw materials and skilled labor to ensure technological sovereignty.
