Minister Yusuf Tekin promotes arts to combat youth violence

Turkish Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated that engaging children in the arts is the most effective way to protect them from violence, loneliness, and modern societal pressures. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Ankara Music and Fine Arts University academic year, Tekin addressed the rising issue of violence among youth.

He noted that many recent incidents involving weapons or knives in schools have been perpetrated by minors. Tekin emphasized that these individuals are often disconnected from their families, schools, and societal values long before committing such acts. He attributed part of this trend to digital media and dark movements that glorify violence and turn loneliness into anger, a phenomenon he noted is occurring globally.
