Ministry inspectors to verify Sicilian highway safety works on October 5

Inspectors from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport are scheduled to conduct a verification on October 5 regarding the implementation of urgent safety interventions on the A18 and A20 motorways in Sicily. The inspection aims to determine if the prescribed safety measures have been effectively initiated as the Ministry's deadline approaches.

There is a persistent risk of closures on certain sections of these highways. While the Regional Government has announced immediate works, Deputy Giuseppe Lombardo of the Sud chiama Nord movement has called for a commission at the Sicilian Regional Assembly (Ars) to demand clarity on project timelines and resources. Lombardo has requested hearings with regional leadership and highway consortium officials to assess whether the Concessionary Highway Authority (CAS) is capable of meeting safety requirements and has even suggested evaluating the possibility of appointing a commissioner for the CAS directorate.
