Ministry of Agriculture issues heatwave alert for temperatures up to 48°C

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries has issued a vigilance alert following reports from the National Institute of Meteorology regarding a significant rise in temperatures. Forecasts indicate that maximum temperatures could reach between 42 and 48 degrees Celsius, exceeding seasonal averages by 2 to 11 degrees.

To mitigate the impact of the heatwave, the ministry has recommended several preventive measures for farmers, breeders, and fishermen. Key recommendations include sheltering animals in shaded, well-ventilated areas, ensuring access to sufficient potable water, and avoiding the transport or grouping of livestock during extreme heat.

Additionally, the ministry advised rational water management by prioritizing irrigation during cooler hours and urged farmers to monitor crops and orchards closely. To prevent wildfires, the ministry emphasized avoiding activities that could trigger fires in forests, pastures, and dry agricultural lands. Fishermen have also been advised to monitor weather forecasts and follow maritime safety guidelines.
