Ministry of Agriculture warns Partenio Regional Park over Summonte beech tree delay

The Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests (MASAF) has formally issued a warning to the Partenio Regional Park regarding the delayed protection of a monumental beech tree in Summonte. The tree, located in Campo San Giovanni, is in precarious phytosanitary condition and has already suffered the loss of much of its canopy due to the collapse of a main branch.

The safety interventions have been stalled by a bureaucratic deadlock, specifically the lack of a required Environmental Incidence Assessment (VINCA) from the Park authority. Following appeals from the association ‘Ambiente e/è Vita’, MASAF noted significant delays compared to the approved project schedule and urged the Park to release the necessary authorizations immediately. The safety project is part of an inter-institutional agreement to which the Park is a signatory.
