Ministry of Culture cuts funding for Fundación Miró

The Spanish Ministry of Culture, led by Minister Ernest Urtasun, has reduced its annual contribution to the Fundación Miró by 20%. The new allocation stands at 50,000 euros, a figure that remains significantly lower than the contributions made by the Palma City Council (100,000 euros) and the Consell de Mallorca (80,000 euros).

Javier Bonet, the first deputy mayor and Councilor for Culture of Palma, criticized the decision, stating it shows a lack of respect for an institution essential to the social and cultural life of Palma and the Balearic Islands. The reduction follows an unanswered request from Palma Mayor Jaime Martínez in March, who had urged the Ministry to increase funding to support the foundation's work in promoting the legacy of artist Joan Miró.
