Mexico and Peru advance cultural heritage and policy initiatives

Cultural authorities in Mexico and Peru are advancing various initiatives to protect and promote heritage. In Mexico, Secretary of Culture Claudia Curiel de Icaza met with UNESCO representatives to deepen cooperation regarding cultural rights, heritage, and artistic education. Additionally, a proposal has been submitted to the Congress of the Union to implement a zero tax rate for small and medium-sized bookstores to support the literary ecosystem.

In Peru, the Ministry of Culture is focusing on archaeological preservation and regional development. This includes the inauguration of a ceramic exhibition in Callao and the development of investment projects to restore eight colonial-era temples in the Colca Valley that were damaged by earthquakes. Experts have also highlighted the urgent need for sustained state policies to protect major sites such as Nazca, Machu Picchu, and Chan Chan.
