Ministry of E-Governance launches national robotics initiative in Belize
The Belize Ministry of E-Governance has donated a VEX V5 Classroom Super Robotics Kit to the University of Belize to support its Jaguar Tech Studio. The kit contains over 1,500 components, including smart motors, sensors, and controllers, designed to transition students from theoretical learning to hands-on design, programming, and testing of robotic systems.
This initiative is part of a broader national effort to build digital capacity and prepare the workforce for future roles in automation and artificial intelligence. Ministry of E-Governance CEO Jose Urbina stated that the Belize Robotics Federation is slated to receive a unit next, and the ministry plans to procure approximately five additional kits for distribution to other national institutions.
The ministry is also partnering with the Belize Robotics Federation to develop nationwide training courses. The program aims to increase Belizean representation in international competitions, such as the Robotics World Championship, to provide students with exposure to advanced engineering and collaborative teamwork.
