Ministry of Education announces R$ 30 million for new Colégio João XXIII headquarters

Brazil's Minister of Education, Leonardo Barchini, has announced R$ 30 million for the construction of a new headquarters for Colégio de Aplicação João XXIII in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. The new facility is planned to be located on the campus of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) and will feature 35 classrooms with a focus on full-time education.

The project follows the closure of the school's previous site in the Santa Helena neighborhood, which was decommissioned by Civil Defense due to landslide risks following heavy rains in February 2026. Since the closure, students have been distributed across various temporary locations. The new campus is expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months after the site is finalized and construction begins. To expedite the process, the Ministry may use an existing architectural model designed for federal institutes.
