Ministry of Environment inaugurates renovated Barahona office

The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has inaugurated a renovated provincial office in Barahona. This project is part of a broader national initiative to upgrade 28 prioritized offices out of the institution's 53 total locations, following an assessment in August 2024 to identify sites with significant infrastructure and equipment needs.

The renovations at the Barahona headquarters included improvements to the National Service for Environmental Protection (SENPA) and Biodiversity department offices. Physical upgrades involved repairing roofs, floors, and coatings, replacing windows, renewing the electrical system, and installing a perimeter fence for security. The facility now features a new reception area, accessibility features for persons with reduced mobility, exterior lighting, an equipped kitchen, and a 227-square-meter gazebo.

In addition to structural repairs, the office received new furniture and technological equipment, such as computers and multifunctional printers. During the inauguration, Minister Paíno Henríquez stated that the recovery of these spaces serves as recognition for the staff dedicated to protecting the nation's natural resources.
