Ministry of Equality liquidator suppresses 407 positions
John Milton Rodríguez, the liquidator of Colombia's Ministry of Equality and Equity, has announced the suppression of 407 positions, representing more than half of the entity's total staff. The reduction is being implemented in two phases to achieve a projected annual savings of approximately $62.8 billion pesos.
The liquidator stated that these funds will be used to facilitate the closure of the entity and to provide aid for the earthquake emergency that occurred on August 10. Rodríguez also reported the recovery of $60 billion pesos from operational transfers sent to FonIgualdad.
Rodríguez raised concerns regarding the financial management of the previous administration under Gustavo Petro, alleging that social programs for 2025 and 2026 were left underfunded by using remaining 2024 balances to simulate coverage. He noted that operational execution for promised community services was between 5% and 12%. Consequently, a comprehensive audit has been ordered for the 24 social programs linked to FonIgualdad. Certain functions and viceministries will be progressively transferred to the Ministry of the Interior and the Department of Social Prosperity.
