Ministry of Finance announces revised excise duties and customs tariffs

The Ministry of Finance and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) have issued several notifications revising duty rates and customs tariff values, effective September 1, 2026.

Under Central Excise Notifications 46/2026, 47/2026, and 48/2026, the government has amended rates previously set in March 2026. These revisions introduce new rates for specified goods, including adjustments to Rs 1.50 per litre and Rs 19 per litre for certain items under the Central Excise Act, 1944.

Additionally, Notification No. 72/2026-Customs amends the prescribed tariff values for various imported goods. Revised values for edible oils include US $1,214 per metric tonne for crude palm oil and US $1,262 for crude soya bean oil. For precious metals, the tariff value for gold is set at US $1,468 per 10 grams, while silver is valued at US $2,267 per kilogram.
