Ministry of Finance introduces strict fund origin checks for gambling licenses

The Ministry of Finance has introduced a new Rulebook to regulate the reputation, integrity, and origin of funds for entities applying for gambling licenses. This regulation stems from the new Law on Games of Chance passed in June.

Under the new rules, applicants for licenses—including casinos, betting shops, slot clubs, and closed-type tombolas—must provide extensive documentation. The Ministry will conduct rigorous checks to ensure a continuous paper trail of capital, using bank reports, contracts, and financial statements to trace funds from their original source to the company's core capital.

The oversight extends beyond the primary applicants to include partners, associates, and members of management and supervisory bodies. This measure is part of a broader effort to combat money laundering and terrorism financing by ensuring that all individuals and entities involved in the gambling sector meet strict integrity standards.
