Ministry of Health cancels temporary health worker recruitment

The Ministry of Health has canceled a temporary recruitment notice for 90 technical health workers intended for Girne and Güzelyurt hospitals, as well as angiography and cardiovascular surgery services. The Ministry explained that the decision to use temporary status was an attempt to bypass delays caused by upcoming election bans, which would have prevented the Public Service Commission from completing the standard, lengthy hiring process in time.

The move follows sharp criticism from the Cyprus Turkish Civil Servants Union (KTAMS). KTAMS General Secretary Serman Yiğit condemned the recruitment process, labeling it as “pro-government employment” aimed at influencing elections. The union argued that the two-day application window was unacceptable and called for all staffing to be handled through transparent exams and merit-based evaluations by the Public Service Commission rather than political connections.

While the temporary recruitment has been rescinded, the Ministry stated that the process to fill these positions permanently through the Public Service Commission is ongoing.
