Ministry of Home Affairs reviews commune-level leadership allowances

The Ministry of Home Affairs is reviewing salary and allowance policies for commune-level leadership positions based on administrative classifications. This follows petitions from voters in Lao Cai province regarding the current compensation structure.

Currently, allowances for commune-level leaders are determined by job title rather than the administrative classification of the locality. Voters have noted that this fails to reflect differences in workload, as a leader in a large Type I ward may receive the same allowance as a leader in a small Type III commune.

The Ministry stated it is coordinating with relevant agencies to research and propose a perfected salary policy in accordance with the spirit of the 14th National Congress. This research will include examining how to align allowances with the hierarchy of administrative units to ensure policies are practical and provide adequate motivation for local officials.
