Ministry of Internal Affairs employees investigated for driver's license bribery

At least two employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are under investigation for allegedly accepting a bribe of 1,400 euros to facilitate the issuance of a falsified driver's license. The scheme reportedly involved a person claiming their original license was lost, while officials planned to add higher-level categories to the new document, allowing the individual to operate heavy trucks and buses without meeting the necessary legal requirements.

The Internal Control Department has launched a broad investigation, as there are suspicions that a significant number of fraudulent licenses may have been issued through this method. If confirmed, the scandal poses a major public safety risk, particularly regarding the operation of buses used for transporting tourists and children.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the Department for Internal Control, Criminal Investigation, and Professional Standards has notified the competent Basic Public Prosecutor's Office. Authorities are currently working in coordination with the prosecution to clarify the case.
