Turkey revokes citizenship of 6,134 people over investment fraud
Turkish authorities have revoked or canceled the citizenship of 6,134 individuals following investigations into irregularities in the investment-based citizenship program. The Ministry of Interior reported that 1,413 investors and their family members had their citizenship decisions invalidated or withdrawn due to the use of fraudulent appraisal reports and improper real estate transactions. Additionally, 263 investors and their families had their citizenship revoked on grounds of national security and public order.
A major investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office uncovered a network involving fraudulent real estate sales. This operation resulted in the detention of 72 suspects and the appointment of trustees to 72 companies. Authorities have also placed precautionary measures on significant assets, including 2,011 properties, an hotel, 86 vehicles, 2 luxury yachts, and 42 bank accounts to prevent the laundering of illicit gains.
Separately, the Ministry of Justice has launched a major digital update to the National Judiciary Informatics System (UYAP). Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that the update aims to streamline judicial and enforcement processes, allowing citizens to track cases, submit electronic applications, and perform inquiries more efficiently through the Citizen Portal. New features include expanded bank inquiry capabilities for legal entities and the upcoming pilot implementation of online payment for judicial fines.
