Ministry of Mines and UPTC launch mining transition in Sogamoso
The Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC) are leading workshops in Sogamoso to facilitate a mining transition and labor reconversion in the Boyacá department.
Through an inter-institutional technical table, the initiative aims to structure concrete proposals for labor reconversion under Administrative Agreement GGC-2162-2025. The goal is to promote reindustrialization by adding value to strategic minerals and reducing the region's exclusive dependence on coal extraction and traditional materials.
The government strategy intends to transition workers into sustainable commercial sectors through training, technological transfer, and associative strengthening. Additionally, the workshops focus on designing projects for entrepreneurship and the popular economy in rural areas, seeking to align state resources, industry guilds, and academia to create alternative employment opportunities.
