Greece proposes mandatory electronic payments for courier deliveries

The Greek Ministry of National Economy and Finance has introduced a new bill for public consultation, proposing significant changes to electronic payments, debt management, and agricultural support.

A major provision mandates the use of electronic payment methods for courier deliveries, regardless of the transaction amount. This change aims to reduce cash transactions and will affect delivery services and platforms like Wolt and efood, though food orders are currently expected to remain exempt from the cash restriction.

The bill also introduces a new framework for private debt and servicers. It establishes a standardized bilateral settlement process to replace the existing Code of Ethics, setting strict deadlines for creditors to respond to settlement proposals. It also introduces protections for compliant debtors, such as prohibiting seizures or auctions while an active settlement is maintained.

Additionally, the legislation includes measures to support the agricultural sector, such as the refund of the Excise Tax on agricultural diesel by October 31, and provisions regarding heating subsidies.
