Ministry of Public Works normalizes Batang Baliang river after Solok floods

The Indonesian Ministry of Public Works, through the BWS Sumatera V Padang, is conducting normalization of the Batang Baliang river following flash floods in the Solok Regency, West Sumatra. Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that efforts are focused on cleaning river channels and estuaries to smooth water flow and mitigate the risk of subsequent flooding.

Work involves using excavators to remove stone materials and debris that have blocked the riverbed, preventing water from overflowing into residential areas. Additionally, the Ministry is conducting rapid assessments in upstream areas to design potential sediment control infrastructure, such as sabo dams. To support immediate community needs, the Ministry has also deployed water tank units to provide clean water to those affected.
