Ministry of Religious Affairs verifies 4.6 million santri in Indonesia
The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has verified 4,634,406 students (santri) through a new by-name-by-address (BNBA) mechanism. This data includes students from Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah (MDT), and Al-Quran Education Institutions (LPQ).
Basnang Said, the Director General of Islamic Boarding Schools, stated that the current figure is not yet final. The ministry is undergoing a transformation of its data collection system, moving away from aggregate statistics toward an integrated database of individual identities, addresses, and active statuses to ensure accuracy and eliminate duplicates.
The ongoing verification and consolidation process aims to synchronize data with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s Education Master Data (Dapodik). As the process continues, the number of verified students is expected to increase.
