Ministry of the Interior rules Enzo Cuomo's regional appointment invalid

The Italian Ministry of the Interior has ruled that Enzo Cuomo’s appointment as a regional assessor for Campania was invalid due to legal incompatibilities and a lack of eligibility requirements. According to the Ministry, Cuomo held an incompatible position as the Mayor of Portici at the time of his appointment, as the twenty-day period required for resignations to become effective under the Consolidated Law on Local Authorities had not yet elapsed.

In response to the ruling, Francesco Morra, president of Anci Campania, has called for legislative changes regarding the rules that govern mayors running for regional council seats. Morra argued that the situation highlights the need for clear, equitable rules to ensure that mayors, who represent their communities directly, are not penalized when seeking regional representation. He urged the regional council to initiate a comprehensive discussion on electoral laws to prevent similar legal disputes in the future.
