Ministry of Transportation enhances connectivity for IKN buffer zones

The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation's Directorate General of Land Transportation has launched new initiatives to improve connectivity in the buffer zones of Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN). On August 27, 2026, the ministry introduced pick-up and drop-off zones for the Balikpapan City Trans (Bacitra) urban transport service at Plaza Balikpapan in East Kalimantan.

The Bacitra service currently operates three corridors, including a route between Semayang Port and SAMS Balikpapan Airport. Additionally, a new intermodal transport service has been launched to connect key transportation hubs in Balikpapan, including Semayang Port, SAMS Airport, Batu Ampar Terminal, and IKN via the Samboja Toll Road. This 127 km route is serviced by seven buses with a 60-minute headway.
