LPGA Shanghai: Carlota Ciganda penalized for slow play
During the third round of the Buick LPGA Shanghai at Sheshan International Golf Club, veteran golfer Carlota Ciganda was assessed a two-stroke penalty for violating the LPGA Tour’s pace-of-play policy. The penalty, incurred on the 13th hole, turned her par into a double bogey. Despite the setback, Ciganda recovered with consecutive birdies to finish the round with a 1-under 71, leaving her tied for fourth place, five strokes behind leader Choi Hye-jin.
American Yealimi Noh also received a two-stroke penalty for slow play during the same round. Noh struggled following the infraction, finishing with a 4-over-par 76.
The penalties are a result of stricter pace-of-play regulations implemented by the LPGA at the start of 2025. Under these rules, players are allotted 30 seconds per shot, with additional time allowed for certain scenarios. Penalties are tiered based on the duration of the delay: one to five seconds results in a fine, six to 15 seconds results in a one-stroke penalty, and 16 seconds or more results in a two-stroke penalty.
