Minneapolis man charged with flag vandalism in Edina

Mahamud Hassan Mahamed, a 24-year-old resident of south Minneapolis, has been charged with fourth-degree damage to property following an incident in Edina.

According to reports, Mahamed stole an American flag from a medical office building near 66th and York Avenue South on a Wednesday morning. Witnesses stated he attached the flag to his vehicle and dragged it behind him before being chased off by bystanders.

Later that same afternoon, Mahamed reportedly returned to the property and shredded the flag. He has since been booked into custody and trespassed from the premises.
