Minneapolis police investigate widespread vehicle window-smashing spree
A widespread spree of vehicle vandalism has targeted Minneapolis, with at least 87 car windows smashed during an overnight period on Friday. The damage has continued through the weekend and into Monday morning, particularly in northeast Minneapolis and along Marshall Street NE.
Witnesses and residents reported that the vandals appeared to be breaking windows without attempting to steal items from inside the vehicles. The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) noted that while some descriptions suggest a group of teenagers, others describe a single masked individual. No arrests have been made as of the latest reports.
In response to the incidents, the MPD stated it is strengthening its response to property crime by establishing a new commander position dedicated to coordinating property-crime investigations citywide.
