Minneapolis Public Schools considers school closures and boundary changes
Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is considering three transformation options that could involve closing, merging, or redrawing attendance boundaries for schools across the city. The district is currently seeking community feedback, which will remain open through October 16, before providing an update to the school board on October 20. A final decision will be made by the board following this period.
District 2 board member Sharon El-Amin has called for accountability, emphasizing that equity must ensure communities historically impacted by closures receive stability and academic opportunities rather than just further disruption. Additionally, the Minneapolis Federation of Educators Local 59 has rejected the proposed options, advocating instead for a long-term plan focused on staff retention and enrollment growth.
