Minneapolis to hold remembrance day for Annunciation Church shooting victims

The City of Minneapolis has announced a day of remembrance on August 27 to honor the victims of the Annunciation Church shooting. The incident, which occurred during a Catholic mass, resulted in the deaths of two students, Fletcher Merkel and Harper Moyski, and left 30 others injured.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Annunciation community has focused on healing and resiliency. The church and school have transitioned their themes toward peace and hope, while the Annunciation Hope and Healing Fund has been established to support those affected. Local businesses, such as Atmosphere, have provided resources and expertise to help restore physical spaces on campus to foster comfort for the community.

Minneapolis Police Department officers who responded to the scene have shared reflections on the event. As the community approaches the one-year anniversary, the church has requested privacy for campus observances, though the city plans to hold a public remembrance event with details to be released soon.
