Minnesota cow tests positive for rabies, nine people undergo treatment

A cow in Brown County, Minnesota, has tested positive for the rabies virus, leading to the recommended rabies treatment for nine individuals. The Minnesota Board of Animal Health reported that the heifer exhibited unusual behavior, including hyper-salivation, high temperature, and uncoordinated movement, before being humanely euthanized on September 3.

Nine people were identified as having potential exposure and are receiving treatment. Those affected include the farm owner, the owner's daughter, two children, two veterinarians, and three veterinary technicians. The exposure occurred because the owner and two veterinarians administered oral medication to the animal without using protective gloves.
