Minnesota gubernatorial candidates outline education and safety platforms

Candidates in the Minnesota gubernatorial race are outlining their platforms regarding education and public safety. Democratic candidate Senator Amy Klobuchar has proposed an education agenda focused on improving reading and math skills through evidence-based curricula, providing small-group tutoring, and advancing STEM education through employer partnerships. Her plan also includes banning cell phones in K-12 classrooms, boosting attendance through real-time tracking, and launching a statewide initiative to prevent student homelessness.

Republican candidate and House Speaker Lisa Demuth has introduced an education plan titled “Lisa Demuth’s Education Comeback Plan for Minnesota,” which aims to return the state to the top 10 nationally in educational rankings.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Republican Party has criticized Klobuchar for not listing public safety as a standalone priority on her campaign website. GOP Chairman Alex Plechash cited recent gang-related violence and shootings in the Twin Cities suburbs, such as Edina and Eden Prairie, as evidence that public safety requires urgent gubernatorial attention.
