Minnesota House District 54A candidates enter rematch
Brad Tabke and Aaron Paul are running against each other again for Minnesota House District 54A following a highly contested 2024 election. In the previous cycle, Tabke won the seat by a margin of only 14 votes after a legal battle involving 20 uncounted ballots. Republican challenger Aaron Paul filed a lawsuit seeking a new election, but a judge ultimately ruled a new vote was unnecessary after several voters testified they had voted for Tabke.
The upcoming campaign in Shakopee and Jackson Township features debates over immigration enforcement, specifically regarding the impact of federal operations like Operation Metro Surge, as well as local issues such as data centers and surveillance technology. This district, along with neighboring 48B, has recently seen shifts in political representation, with Tabke and Lucy Rehm being among the first Democrats to represent their areas in decades.
