Minnesota maintains AAA credit rating for fifth consecutive year
Minnesota has maintained its AAA credit rating for the fifth consecutive year, according to major agencies including Moody’s Investors Service, S&P Global Ratings, and Fitch Ratings. All three agencies provided the state with a “stable outlook.”
Governor Tim Walz attributed the rating to the state’s fiscal management, including balancing the budget, reducing structural imbalances, and maintaining reserves. The AAA rating indicates an extremely strong ability to repay debt and a low risk of default, which reduces borrowing costs for the state.
Fitch Ratings also assigned a AAA rating to four of the state’s general obligation bonds. Minnesota was among 14 states to receive this top-tier rating. Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Erin Campbell noted that the state continues to focus on responsible budgeting and strategic investments to remain competitive.
