Minnesota men sentenced in separate shooting cases

Two separate violent incidents in Minnesota have resulted in prison sentences for the perpetrators.

In Stearns County, 28-year-old Lara Tetyang Puok was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for a shooting that occurred in October 2024 on Rivercrest Drive. Following an argument and physical altercation, Puok fired a handgun at a man who was attempting to walk away, causing a spinal cord injury that affected the victim's ability to use his legs. Puok received credit for time already served in county jail.

In Minneapolis, 66-year-old Raymond Jones was sentenced to 128 months in prison for the fatal shooting of 43-year-old Desirae Argueta-Joj. The incident occurred during a dispute over $30. Jones was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder after waiving his right to a jury trial. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty noted that Jones shot the victim in the heart at contact range and stated that the victim should still be alive.
