Minnesota officials prepare for potential election interference
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon is implementing a “war room mentality” to prepare for the upcoming November 3 general election. A primary focus of the state's planning involves addressing potential federal interference, including the possibility of federal agents appearing at polling places.
Simon noted that Minnesota has established laws regarding who is permitted near polling locations, which apply to federal law enforcement. To mitigate risks, his office is coordinating with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, local law enforcement, and community partners. The state is also working to combat misinformation and rumors that could discourage voter turnout.
Additionally, an election security navigator team is providing cybersecurity, IT support, and physical security guidance to local administrators across all 87 Minnesota counties. While officials stated they are not aware of a massive, organized statewide effort to disrupt the election, they remain in a “ready anytime” posture to handle unexpected safety or security issues.
