Minnesota prosecutors secure long‑withheld evidence in ICE protest shooting cases

On Monday, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced that state investigators have finally received hard drives, body‑camera video, witness statements and the damaged SUV of Renee Good that had been withheld by federal officials. The material relates to the fatal shootings of Good on Jan 7 and nurse Alex Pretti on Jan 24 during protests against a federal immigration‑enforcement operation in Minneapolis, as well as the non‑fatal wounding of Julio Sosa‑Celis on Jan 14.

The evidence was turned over after six months of negotiations, a lawsuit and a motion filed by Attorney General Keith Ellison and Moriarty seeking a deadline extension. Prosecutors are reviewing the files; no charges have yet been announced against the ICE and Border Patrol agents involved, though ICE agent Christian Castro has been indicted for the Sosa‑Celis shooting. The release follows a recent ICE shooting in Biddeford, Maine, and adds pressure on the Trump administration’s “Operation Metro Surge” policies.
