Minnesota records high early voting turnout ahead of elections

Minnesota is experiencing record-breaking early voting levels as the midterm elections approach. According to the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office, nearly 420,000 ballots have been cast so far, consisting of over 240,000 in-person votes and approximately 178,000 mail-in ballots. This turnout significantly outpaces the 282,000 ballots cast during the same period in the 2022 midterm elections.

In Stearns County, officials have expanded access by opening additional early voting locations in several communities, including Melrose, Paynesville, Cold Spring, St. Augusta, St. Joseph, Sartell, and Sauk Centre, in addition to existing sites in St. Cloud and Waite Park.

Political analysts suggest that close races for Senate and Attorney General may be driving voter motivation. Current data indicates strong early participation in Democratic-held areas, though experts note that Republican turnout may still be significant in greater Minnesota.
