New Minnesota accountability data reveals varying levels of student proficiency across several school districts. In Rochester Public Schools, Superintendent Kent Pekel noted that students exceeded the state reading proficiency rate for the first time in 14 years, with approximately 47% of students reaching proficiency compared to a statewide average of 46%.
Duluth Public Schools also reported performance above state averages. The district saw a 54.7% proficiency rate in reading, surpassing the state average of 48.6%, and a 33.6% proficiency rate in science, which exceeded the state average of 25.5%. Duluth's mathematics proficiency matched the state average at 44.9%.
Other regional results showed significant disparities. The Kasson-Mantorville School District reported high proficiency rates, with 57% in reading and 55% in math. Conversely, districts such as Albert Lea and Austin reported lower proficiency levels in both reading and mathematics compared to the state averages.
