Minnesota Secretary of State responds to undercover voter impersonation tests

Undercover journalists from the Citizen Justice League and O’Keefe Media Group conducted tests at Minneapolis polling locations during the Minnesota primary election. The reporters, using foreign accents and disguises, attempted to utilize the state’s voter vouching system to see if they could register unregistered individuals or vote under false names.

Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon characterized the actions as “outrageous” misconduct, stating that the group’s goal appeared to be casting doubt on state election laws. Simon clarified that while vouching is a legal process used to confirm residency—typically for seniors—it requires both the voucher and the individual to provide identification and for the voucher to reside in the same precinct.

While the undercover footage shows interactions where poll workers explained vouching rules, Simon noted that workers reported the visitors to election officials and that law enforcement is currently reviewing the group's actions.
