Minnesota State Fair assault leaves Oakdale man with jaw fractures

A 45-year-old man from Oakdale, Minnesota, is recovering from reconstructive surgery following an assault at the Minnesota State Fair on the night of September 5. The victim, Sammy Kimbrough, suffered multiple jaw fractures after being knocked unconscious and attacked by a group.

Minnesota State Fair police responded to the area of Carnes Avenue and Nelson Street at approximately 9:48 p.m. following a confrontation between groups of fairgoers. According to the victim's fiancée, the incident began after Kimbrough accidentally bumped into a group of eight to 12 young men. Although Kimbrough reportedly attempted to de-escalate the verbal aggression, he was subsequently sucker-punched from behind.

Witnesses alleged that members of the group continued to attack Kimbrough while he was unconscious. While the victim's fiancée expressed belief that the attacker may have used brass knuckles due to the severity of the injuries, police stated that no known weapons were used. As of the latest reports, no suspects are in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
